This outdoor living project in Ottawa was an essential part of the total Mason House transformation. We wanted to extend the living space of our Old Ottawa East home to the outdoors, creating a seamless transition from the interior to a functional, beautiful backyard retreat.

As part of our specialized outdoor living spaces services, this project involved a custom deck and landing area designed to maximize the footprint of a city lot. By using high-quality materials and thoughtful design-build practices, we created an “outdoor room” that serves as a space for both relaxation and entertaining.

This is a standout example in our portfolio of outdoor living projects, proving that even compact urban spaces can offer premium lifestyle value.

What a sweet retreat.

Custom western red cedar decking was chosen for its natural beauty and durability in Ottawa’s four-season climate, while an integrated multi-level landing resolves the grade change between the kitchen door and the yard. Slim pergola posts support a canopy for dappled shade, and frosted privacy screens keep the space feeling secluded without blocking light. Because the lot is compact, every square foot had to earn its place: built-in planting beds soften the brick walls, and lighting extends evenings outdoors. The design-build approach meant one team coordinated structure, carpentry, and finishes, avoiding the delays that often affect renovations Ottawa homeowners take on with multiple contractors. Today the deck is a true outdoor room for dining, reading, and entertaining, a sweet retreat the family uses from the first thaw to the last warm evening of fall.
